DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team dropped a pair of games at Regis, 8-0 and 5-4, on Friday at Regis Softball Field.
The Cowgirls (4-10, 2-4) in the second game tied the game 2-2 in the third inning on a
Heaven Medina two-run double and againe in the fourth 3-3 on a Brooklyn De La Garza RBI double before Regis scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth to pull away (
Carlee Gonzalez hit a sac fly in the seventh to cut the lead to one, but that's as close as NMHU would get).
Medina went 3-for-4 in game two with two RBI to pace the Cowgirls.
Nathalie Blattmann suffered her first loss of the season, going the distance and giving up five runs on four hits with four strikeouts and six walks.
In the first game, NMHU managed just four hits and was blanked by the Rangers (11-8, 6-0) 8-0.
Samantha Gamboa had the Cowgirls' lone extra-base hit with a double.
Â
Arianna Ramirez picked up the loss, giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
The two teams meet again Saturday for another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. to complete the series.
