DENVER --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team dropped both games to Regis on Saturday, falling 12-0 and 13-5.
In the second game, the Cowgirls (4-12 overall, 2-6 RMAC) fell behind 12-0 before a five-run outburst in the fourth inning - highlighted by a
Samantha Gamboa two-run homer - to cut the lead to seven. However, Regis scored in the next inning to force the run rule.
Gamboa finished 2-for-3 to lead NMHU while
Mickey Sibley drove in two runs.Nathalie Blattman got the loss, going 2.2 innings and giving up 10 runs (only three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and five walks.
In the first game, Regis scored three runs in the first and nine more in the second to take a 12-0 lead as NMHU finished with three hits in the game - one each by Gamboa,
Heaven Medina and Savannah Chavez.
Demi Uffelman got the loss, going three innings and giving up 12 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits with a strikeout and four walks.
The Cowgirls return to action noon Saturday at home against Colorado School of Mines.
