PUEBLO, Colorado --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team lost to CSU Pueblo 5-2 and 10-2 on Friday at Rawlings Complex.
In the first game, the Cowgirls (7-33, 5-25) took a 2-1 lead in the third inning thanks to a two-run single from
Dioni Lincoln before the ThunderWolves (16-19, 12-18) scored two in the fifth to take the lead and two more in the sixth to make the final 5-2.
NMHU had two hits in the game, one by Lincoln and the other by
Camrynn Ziegler.
Nathalie Blattmann took the loss in the circle, going the distance and giving up five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
In game two, CSU Pueblo used a six-run third inning to break a scoreless tie and eventually run-ruled the Cowgirls 10-2 in five innings. NMHU scored two runs in the fourth inning on RBI singles from
Alice Midiri and
Alessandra De La Trinidad.Â
Five players hit five singles for NMHU.
Arianna Ramirez took the loss, going 2.2 innings and giving up four runs (none earned) on five hits with a strikeout and a walk.
The teams complete the series with a doubleheader starting 11 a.m. Saturday in Pueblo.
