Cowgirl softball falls 6-0 and 6-2 to CSU Pueblo on Saturday

PUEBLO, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team lost to CSU Pueblo 6-0 and 6-2 on Saturday at Rawlings Complex.

In the first game, the Cowgirls (7-35, 5-27) fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, gave up another run in the third and two more in the sixth to the ThunderWolves (18-19, 14-18) to lose 6-0.

Savannah Chavez went 2-for-3 for NMHU while Mickey Sibley went 2-for-2. Nathalie Blattmann took the loss, going 5.2 innings and giving up six runs (three earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

In the second game, the Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a Heaven Medina home run. CSU Pueblo scored a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead before Medina homered again for the Cowgirls in the fifth to cut the ThunderWolves' lead to 3-2.

However, CSU Pueblo scored three runs in the sixth to pull away for the 6-2 victory.

Medina finished 2-for-3 with a pair of homers for the Cowgirls while Camrynn Ziegler and Dioni Lincoln picked up the other two hits for NMHU. Arianna Ramirez took the loss, going three innings in relief and giving up five runs (four earned) on five hitswith no strikeouts and two walks.

NMHU returns to action Tuesday when it travels to take on Eastern New Mexico in non-conference action.
