PORTALES, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team dropped a pair of games at Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday 4-1 and 10-6 at Greyhounds Softball Field.
In the first game, the Cowgirls (7-37) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a
Heaven Medina RBI single. However, the Greyhounds (15-27) 14-28 scored one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away with the 4-1 win.
Savannah Pineda-Chavez led NMHU at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run and stolen base - picking up three of the team's five hits.
Demi Uffelman took the loss - going five innings in relief and giving up four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
In game two, NMHUÂ rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third thanks to a pair of solo homers in the second inning (one each from Medina and
Arianna Ramirez) and an RBI double in the third from
Megan Gutierrez.
But ENMU scored four runs in the third to take a 6-3 lead and NMHU couldn't rally and eventually fell 10-6.
Ramirez finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs and Gutierrez finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Ramirez picked up the loss in the circle, going the distance and giving up 10 runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and six walks.
NMHU returns to RMAC play Saturday when they travel to take on UCCS.
