LOS ANGELES ---Â
Faith Lovato picked up her second career win and
Lucia Harrison crushed her previous personal best to come away with the top performances for the New Mexico Highlands University women's track and field team at the Cal State-LA Twilight meet Thursday in Los Angeles.
Lovato broke away from the field with 700 meters to go and raced solo the rest of the way to win the 1,500-meter race in 4:47.15. The sophomore from Rio Rancho previously won the 1,500 at the West Texas A&MM Spring Break Classic to kick off her 2022 outdoor season.
Harrison battled windy conditions in the 400, charging down the final stretch to clock 58.78 -- the first time she has been under one minute in her college career.
The 4x100 squad of
Chisom Obioha, Hilary Udechekwu,
Kaitlyn Holl and Sade de Sousa grabbed third with a season-opening 48.3 while freshman
Alissa Martinez matched that placing with a 12.74-meter shot put effort.
The Cowgirls compete Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Asuza Pacific University.
