LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team dropped its series opener to 10th-ranked Colorado Mesa 32-5 Friday at Brandt Field.
Nathan Vetter led the Cowboys (15-28, 10-15) at the plate with three hits, including a double and a run.
Joe Kuhn went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while
Estevan De La O,
Brandon Baier,
Jared Brown and
Kalen Hammer added two hits apiece as well.
Dominick Castillo picked up the loss, going 1.2 innings and giving up nine runs on 10 hits with no strikeouts and two walks.
CMU moved to 28-9 overall and 17-5 in RMAC play.
The two teams meet again in Las Vegas for a doubleheader starting at noon at Brandt Field.
