COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team lost to UCCS 8-4 and 7-4 Saturday at Mountain Lion Field.
In the first game, the Cowgirls (7-41, 5-31) fell behind the Mountain Lions (23-21, 21-15) 6-0 in the first inning and never recovered as they fell 8-4.
Samantha Gamboa went 2-for-4 for NMHU with a home run while
Arianna Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Demi Uffelman got the loss, going 0.2 innings and giving up five runs on two hits with four walks and no strikeouts.
In the second game, UCCS scored four in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tak a 7-1 lead before a Gamboa three-run homer in the seventh made the final 7-4 Mountain Lions.
Nathalie Blattmann took the loss, going five innings and giving up six runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
NMHU closes out the season at home next Friday and Saturday against Colorado Christian.
