PUEBLO, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team took two more games from CSU Pueblo on Saturday, 10-8 and 7-2, at Rawlings Field.
The Cowboys (12-23, 8-11) in the first game fell behind the ThunderWolves (20-17, 11-8) 1-0 in game one before scoring four in the fourth on a
Joe Kuhn RBI single, a
Kalen Hammer two-run triple and a
Cobe Lehman RBI double to make it 4-1.
After CSU Pueblo scored a run in the fourth to make it 4-2,
Eric Papas hit a two-run single in the fifth followed by an
Aidan McNichol RBI single to make it 7-2.
Jared Brown blasted his 11th home run of the season in the sixth inning - a three-run shot - to make it 10-2 and the Cowboys held on for the victory.
Estevan De La O was the only Cowboy with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with three runs.
Jadrian Martinez got the win, going six innings and giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Gavin Gifford got the save, pitching a scoreless seventh inning with a strikeout.
Angel Castillo paced the Cowboys on the mound in game two, going the distance (seven innings) for the win - giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
The Cowboys got all the runs they would need in teh first two innings on an RBI groundout by Brown and a sacrifice fly by McNichol in the first inning and an
Allan Salas solo homer in the second to amke it 3-0. CSU Pueblo scored two in the second to make it 3-2 before Brown hit a sac fly and McNichol hit an RBI groundout in teh fifth and Kuhn laced a two-run double in the seventh to make the final 7-2.
De La O was again the only player for NMHU with multiple hits in the game - going 3-for-4 with his NCAA-leading eighth triple and three runs.
The Cowboys go for the series sweep at CSU Pueblo noon Sunday.
