LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team lost to Fort Lewis 2-1 and 10-2 on Saturday at NMHU Softball Field.
The Cowgirls (7-29, 5-21) played a tight game one with the Skyhawks (10-25, 10-16) as after FLC took the lead 1-0 in the second, NMHU tied it up with an
Arianna Ramirez RBI double to make it 1-1.

Nathalie Blattmann and the Skyhawks' Amiee Shanks kept the opposing teams' bats quiet until the seventh when FLC scored to take a 2-1 lead and hold on to win the game.
Megan Gutierrez led NMHU at the plate, going 2-for-3. Blattmann picked up the tough-luck loss in the circle, going the distance and giving up two runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
In the second game, FLC scored three in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth while NMHU scored two in teh fourth on RBI doubles from
Demi Uffelman and
Megan Gutierrez to fall 10-2.
Dioni Lincoln led NMHU at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double. Uffelman took the loss, going 3.1 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
The two teams play another doubleheader in Las Vegas, starting at 11 a.m.
