Volleyball Ends Skid With Win Over Western New Mexico

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team ended their losing streak with a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18) non-conference win over Western New Mexico University Wednesday evening in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Wilson Complex.

Freshman Jaylee Gonzales led the way with a double-double as she recorded 18 kills and 11 digs in the win. She also recorded a match high five service aces. Angelina Burton and Jada Lawson had 13 and 10 kills respectively. Abby Carlsen and Ashleigh Meyer each recorded 21 assists on the night.

Defensively, Sophia Hendricks-Montes led the Cowgirls with 17 digs while Layla Hooks had four blocks to pace NMHU.

For the match the Cowgirls hit .260, their second best effort of the season after the .268 they hit in the season opening win over Ouachita Baptist University in Texas.

After splitting the opening two sets, NMHU took sets three and four by decisive margins. The entire Cowgirl bench spilled onto the court after Jaylee Gonzales secured the deciding point with her 18th kill of the night on a pass from Aziza Morris.

The Cowgirls return to RMAC play this Friday evening when they host Black Hills State at 6:00 pm. Tickets for Friday's match can be purchased at NMHUAthletics.com/Tickets.
