Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands University men's and women's basketball teams play their home openers on Tuesday as the host Northern New Mexico on Youth Day. The men's game will tip-off at 11:15 am and the women are slated for a 1:30 pm start.
"We are very excited to be hosting the Youth Day games for the second year in a row," said Co-Athletic Director Jim Deisler. "It was an amazing atmosphere last year with all of the schools who attended. We are looking forward to an atmosphere just as good, if not better than last year. Las Vegas loves its sports, and we are thrilled to be a part of it."
The Cowboys are 1-1 entering the game against Northern New Mexico after splitting their games in Portales over the weekend at the South Central Region Crossover. Saturday evening they knocked off the #19 ranked Angelo State Rams 68-65.
AC Curry leads NMHU in scoring at 13.5 points per game while
Ezichi Kalu leads the way with 8.5 rebounds per outing.
The Cowgirls are looking for their first win of the season after playing at the South Central Region Crossover in Portales that saw them battle tough in both games over the weekend. Sophomore
Juliana Aragon leads NMHU in scoring at 14.5 points per game. Junior
Aja Scott leads the Cowgirls at 9.5 rebounds per outing.
