Colorado Springs, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands'
Mart Nijhuis and
Andrew Amor were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team All-Academic Cross Country teams that were announced on Wednesday. In total, five New Mexico Highlands student-athletes were honored for their athletic and academic accomplishments. In addition to Nijhuis and Amor, three runners were named to the Academic Honor Roll and are listed below.
To be eligible for the first team honors, which were selected by a vote of the conference's sports information directors based on a combination of academic and athletic successes, student-athletes must have a 3.500 or higher GPA, have completed a full academic year at the nomination institution and used a season of eligibility. Honor Roll selections must have a 3.30 or higher GPA and meet the other requirements.
Nijhuis, a graduate student from Hengelo, Netherlands, owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in Chemistry. His performances late in the year were key to the NMHU men's team qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Joplin, Missouri where his 31:48.3 effort helped the team to an 18th place finish.
Amore, from Ballart, Victoria, Australia, is a graduate student studying Human Performance and Sport with a 3.92 grade point average. He was the 2023 RMAC Runner of the Year and a three time All-American. He capped off his brilliant career with a 5th place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships last month in Joplin, Missouri.
