Las Vegas, New Mexico - Black Hills State handed the New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team a 77-66 setback on Friday evening in the Wilson Complex. With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets are now 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
The Cowboys began the game on the right foot Friday as they led 16-11 on a field goal from
Nathan Hasberry 10:00 minutes into the contest. At that point, the Yellow Jackets went on a run and posted a 32-23 lead at the half. Four minutes into the second half, NMHU cut the visitor's lead to 34-31 on a jumper by
AC Curry. That would be as close as the Cowboys would get, however, as Black Hills State outscored them down the stretch enroute to the 77-66 win.
Messiah Turner led the Cowboys with 15 points on the night.
AC Curry and
Nathan Hasberry were both in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Ezichi Kalu added eight points and a game high 10 rebounds.
The Cowboys were 36% from the floor and 72% from the free throw line in the game. Black Hills State held a slight edge in rebounds at 41-39.
NMHU plays the final game of the 2023 calendar year tomorrow evening when they host South Dakota Mines. Tip-off in the Wilson Complex is set for 6:00 pm.
