Cowgirls Colorado Bound for RMAC Championships

With a dozen athletes hitting qualifying marks, the HU Women's Track and Field team hits the road this week for Alamosa, CO. The Cowgirls, ranked #20 in the nation, will compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Adams State Feb. 24-25.
The Cowgirls are led by freshmen Ashareah Enoe and Patreece Clarke. The duo are among the top athletes in the DII in their events. Enoe is the national leader in the high jump at 1.85m/6'-3/4" while Clarke is among the top six nationally in the 60m hurdles.
"The RMAC meet is always a battle," notes HU head coach Bob DeVries, "There are five nationally ranked teams and the distance side of the meet is crazy deep."
The Cowgirls won the RMAC Indoor Championship in both 2015 and 2016 and, while the coach admits this year's team is not a title contender, he's looking for some good performances.
"We don't have the numbers to challenge for the trophy, but everyone we have qualified has a shot at scoring and we could bring home few individual championships."
The Cowgirls will look for big marks from Chisom Obioha -- currently ranked fifth in the long jump just an inch off an NCAA qualifying mark-- as well as Katy Scott in the weight throw. Scott, a junior from Springer, NM, was a national qualifier in 2023 and could make the podium this weekend.
"Indoor is always interesting for us, always a challenge, " says DeVries, "We don't have a practice facility and weather  plays havoc with training, but our athletes always find a way to compete when it counts like most."
The RMAC Championships will be live streamed at:
