Las Vegas, NM- Wrapping up a tough weekend was the NMHU Cowgirls as they came so close to taking out a Colorado Christian team that has yet to lose a conference game all year. Although the Cowgirls were swept, they gave CCU a tougher run than any other conference opponent this year.
Game 1- The Cowgirls got off to a fast start and took the lead 2-1 in the first inning. Shortly after, the RMAC's top ranked team began finding their Rythm. Sam Edwards connected on a grand slam in the 2nd inning making the score 5-2. CCU scored 1 more in the 3rd and then 2 more in the 5th grabbing a 9-2 lead. NMHU was able to weather the storm and keep CCU at 9 runs for the rest of the game while scoring 1 more run making the final score 9-3.
Game 2- The Cowgirls had no plans to give up in this game as they again made CCU sweat. CCU had a comfortable lead of 5-0 up until the 5th inning when the Cowgirls flexed their star power.
Heaven Medina reached second and shortly after
Maya Milano singled to center field. Next at bat was Ale De La Trinidad who singled to right field advancing Milano and Medina one base. Following Trinidad was Gabby Varela who singled to left center scoring Medina and Milano while advancing Trinidad to second. The Cowgirls were not done as
Dioni Lincoln doubled to left center scoring both Varela and Trinidad.
Arianna Ramirez got involved also by hitting a single scoring
Dioni Lincoln and tying the game 5-5. Colorado Christian then changed pitchers and that put a stop to the Cowgirls hot streak. They unfortunately were not able to catch a rythm again and the Cougars scored 2 runs in the 5th that would go unanswered.
Home Next Week- The Cowgirls are home next week as they take on Chadron in another conference matchup.
