Women's Cross Country Finish 10th In Joplin

New Mexico Highlands women's cross country team notched a top ten finish Friday afternoon at the Southern Stampede hosted by Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Missouri.

The Cowgirls finished 10th in a field that featured teams from the several of the top NCAA II conferences in the nations. The Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin is the site of the NCAA Division II Championships in November.

"We raced extremely well in both races," said Coach Bob DeVries after Friday's races. "For the women, placing top ten in a race of this caliber is a big step forward."

Individually, Faith Lovato, racing for the first time this season, finished a strong seventh on Friday afternoon. Gracey Lovato posted a 17th place finish for the Cowgirls.

"Faith ran with the lead pack the entire way and Gracey just missed the top 15," said Coach DeVries. "We had PRs from Abi Serna, Lucia Harrison, and Irma Berkowitz again this week."
