Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team dropped a straight set decision to visiting UCCS on Friday evening in the Wilson Complex. The Mountain Lions won the match 25-20, 25-22, 25-14.
NMHU is now 1-11 overall and 0-3 in RMAC play, while UCCS improves to 5-6 and 3-0.
The Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead in the first set but couldn't hold off UCCS. The second set saw the NMHU battle and hold the lead late until late but the Mountain Lions outscored them 7-3 down the stretch. The third set was tight early, but saw UCCS pull away to secure the win.
Aziza Morris and
Jaylee Gonzales led the Cowgirls with nine and eight kills respectively.
Ashleigh Meyer recorded 14 assists and recorded the lone service ace to pace NMHU. Defensively,
Abby Carlsen had nine digs for the Cowgirls.
NMHU is back in action tomorrow evening as they welcome nationally ranked Regis University to the Wilson Complex. Match time is 5:00 pm.
