Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team closed out Pod Play on Saturday evening falling to Fort Lewis College 3-0 in the Wilson Complex. The Skyhawks secured the three set victory 25-13, 25-23, 25-21.
NMHU is 1-14 after the match on Saturday while Fort Lewis improves to 6-8. Pod Play matches do not count in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
Fort Lewis jumped out a 10-1 lead on the Cowgirls in the opening set, forcing the Cowgirls to play catch up early. Sets two and three saw the two teams battle back and forth in very competitive play with NMHU coming up just short.
Angelina Burton led the Cowgirls with 10 kills Saturday while
Megan Waghorn had 15 assists and a pair of service aces.
Layla Hooks and
Jaylee Gonzales each had three blocks.
Amirah Young had 10 digs on the night.
The Cowgirls get back to RMAC play next weekend heading to Denver to face Metro State on Friday and the Colorado School of Mines on Saturday.
