Salt Lake City, Utah - The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team picked up a 76-69 win at Westminster on Friday evening to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the RMAC. The Griffins fall to 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
The two teams played a back and forth first half that saw Westminster lead by as many as five points.
Kameron Valencia drained a three pointer with just under a minute to go before the half to put the Cowboys up 38-37. They never relinquished that lead as they led the entire second half enroute to the victory.
Rodney Mason II led the Cowboys on the night with 17 points while
Kyrie Thomas added 14 points.
Kenard Richardson and
Aahmod Scarbrough each scored 10 points.
Eric Sonnenberg had a big night on the boards as he grabbed a game high 10 rebounds.
The Cowboys were 22 of 48 from the floor and a season's best 57% (10 of 18) from beyond the arc. NMHU out rebounded Westminster 32-20.
The Cowboys now head to Grand Junction for a game with nationally ranked Colorado Mesa on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
