Cowgirls Win At Western New Mexico On Tuesday

Silver City, New Mexico - The Cowgirls closed out the 2024 non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-1 win over Western New Mexico on Tuesday night. NMHU is now 3-11 overall on the season.

The Cowgirls jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the match with wins in the first (25-17) and second (25-18) sets. WNMU held off NMHU to win set three 25-21. In set four the Mustangs led late but the Cowgirls scored three of the set's last four points to win it 27-25.

As a team the Cowgirls hit a season's best .231 for the match and a season's high ten service aces.

Individually on Tuesday, Senior Angelina Burton tied a career high with 16 kills to lead NMHU.  Junior Abby Carlsen had a career high 43 assists.  Freshman Meg Pfannerstill posted career highs in kills (12), digs (19), and aces (3).
Freshman Olivia Archuleta tied a career high with 17 digs.

"I am incredibly proud of this group for battling and getting a win on the road. And it's always nice to beat an in-state rival," said Head Coach Meg Grose. "This is the best we've played within our system all season and we are excited to go into a tough weekend with a win under our belt."

The Cowgirls are back in Las Vegas for RMAC matches with Colorado School of Mines on Friday and MSU-Denver on Saturday.
