Silver City, New Mexico - The Cowboys picked up a 74-71 win on Tuesday afternoon at Western New Mexico to improve to 5-1 on the season.
The Cowboys have won three consecutive games in Silver City and hold an 8-2 lead in the last ten games played in the series with the Mustangs.
NMHU jumped out to a 43-30 lead at the intermission when
TJ Sanchez drained a three-pointer as time expired in the opening half.
The Cowboys would push that lead to 26 points midway through the second half on an
Ezzy Dawson dunk that gave them a 68-42 advantage. Western New Mexico chipped away at the NMHU lead and came within two points in the closing seconds before
Kyrie Thomas made a free throw with 1.2 seconds left to secure the win for the Cowboys.
Tuesday afternoon saw nine different Cowboys score in the win led by
Kenard Richardson's 19 points.
TJ Sanchez was also in double figures with 13 points. The Cowboys bench outscored WNMU 37-27.
Richardson also had a game high eight rebounds while
Ezzy Dawson added seven.
NMHU out-rebounded the host Mustangs 37-33 leading to a 19-7 edge in second chance points.
The Cowboys return to action on Friday afternoon when they welcome Western Colorado to historic Las Vegas for a non-conference game. Tip-off is at 1:00 pm.
