Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys used a balanced scoring attack on Friday to win their fifth consecutive game handing Western Colorado a 94-86 defeat. With the win, NMHU improves to 6-1.
NMHU's 6-1 start is the best to start a season since 2019-20.
Friday's game with Western Colorado marks the second of three games against RMAC foes that are non-conference games this season. NMHU defeated CSU-Pueblo 85-63 last Saturday and travels to Lakewood for a game with Colorado Christian on December 19th. The Cowboys will be in Gunnison on January 11th for an RMAC game with the Mountaineers.
Five Cowboys scored in double figures led by freshman
KJ LaMonte's career high 20 points.
Kenard Richardson scored 14 points,
Blessin Kimble added 13 while
TJ Sanchez and
Nathan Hasberry each scored 11 points.
The Cowboys pressing defense was once again a key in this afternoon's victory as they turned Western Colorado's turnovers into 19 points. Through seven games this season NMHU is averaging 23.1 points per game off of turnovers.
Up next, the Cowboys open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this coming Thursday evening when they welcome Regis to historic Las Vegas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
