Lakewood, Colorado - The Cowboys erupted for 101 points on Saturday night as they defeated Colorado Christian 101-93. NMHU improves to 10-13 overall and 7-11 in the RMAC. The Cougars are now 9-15 overall and 5-13 in conference play.
Saturday's 101 points marks the most points scored by the Cowboys since February 22, 2022, when they scored 100 at UCCS.
Colorado Christian led the game 51-50 at the half. The Cowboys took the lead for good at the 14:37 mark of the second half on a layup by
Kenard Richardson. They would build the lead to as many as 14 points down the stretch as they outscored the Cougars 51-42 in the second half.
Six NMHU players were in double figures on Saturday in Lakewood led by
Nathan Hasberry's 18 points.
Tyler Rodgers and
Kenard Richardson scored 17 points apiece. Also scoring double digits were
Eric Sonnenberg (16 points),
Kyrie Thomas (14), and
Aahmod Scarbrough (11).
Rodgers and Sonnenberg each grabbed nine rebounds.
The Cowboys shot 49.3% from the floor and made good on 15 of 35 three point attempts. They also dominated on the boards out rebounding the Cougars 52-39.
"It's nice to see our guys get rewarded. I feel like we have been playing well the last three weeks but haven't been able to finish games," said head coach
Mike Dominguez. "We did that this weekend and on the road which is tough to do in this league with the travel. This weekend we had multiple guys step up and we have new life!"
The Cowboys return to Las Vegas for games against Colorado Mesa and Westminster next weekend.
