Cowgirls Drop Two On Sunday

Pueblo, Colorado - The Cowgirls dropped both ends of the RMAC season opening doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. UCCS took game one 3-0 and the nightcap 5-4 in eight innings. With the losses today NMHU is 4-3 on the season while the Mountain Lions improve to 5-6 overall.

In Sunday's opening game the Cowgirls had four hits over the first three innings but couldn't capitalize. Shaylene Saladin collected the team's final hit of the game when led off the sixth inning with a double but was ultimately stranded on second.

Game two saw the Cowgirls score four runs and take a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning. Dioni Lincoln, Gabrielle Varela, and Jazmyn Griego each recorded an RBI in consecutive at bats to put NMHU up late. UCCS would score two in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and then push the winning run across in the eighth to get the win.

The two teams get right back at it tomorrow morning at 11:00 am in Pueblo.
