Pueblo, Colorado - The Cowgirls split Monday's doubleheader with UCCS dropping the opening game 3-2 and bouncing back to take the second game 12-0 in five innings. NMHU is now 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the RMAC.
In Monday's opening game UCCS jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Cowgirls answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth when
Gabrielle Varela laced a two out double to left that scored
Alessandra De La Trinidad and
Jazmyn Griego. UCCS scored an unearned run in their half of the fifth to make the score 3-2. The Cowgirls put runners on base in the sixth and the seventh inning but could not push a run across.
The day's second game saw the Cowgirls bats explode for a season high 12 runs and 12 hits as they beat UCCS 12-0 in five innings.
Maya Milano went the distance for NMHU as she scattered four Mountain Lion hits and recorded her first shutout of the season. Offensively,
Arianna Ramirez led the way going three for three and recording six RBI.
Samantha Gamboa had two hits and three RBI for NMHU.
The Cowgirls play their 2024 home opener Saturday as they welcome MSU-Denver to Las Vegas. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
