Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys exploded for a season high 98 points en route to a 98-87 win over UCCS Friday evening. The win improved the Cowboys record to 8-11 overall and 5-9 in the RMAC. UCCS falls to 10-11 overall and 6-9 in conference play.
The two teams went back and forth early on but the Cowboys grabbed the lead for good at the 11:20 mark of the first half when
Kenard Richardson hit a jumper, after a
Mario Archuleta steal, that made the score 18-16.
NMHU took a 54-41 lead to the locker room at the half. The Cowboys led by as many as 15 points in the second half as they improved their home court record to 5-4.
As a team the Cowboys shot a season's best 55.6% from the floor and made 11 shots from beyond the arc on Friday's win. NMHU out rebounded UCCS 35-26.
Five Cowboys scored in double-figures led by junior
Kyrie Thomas who poured in a season high 24 points.
Ezichi Kalu notched his third double-double of the season with 15 points and a game high 12 rebounds.
Kenard Richardson was 7-9 from the floor as he scored 19 points.
Messiah Turner and
Jaylen Domina-Lovato each had 10 points in the win.
The Cowboys are back at it tomorrow evening when they host Regis at 7:00 pm. The Rangers defeated CSU-Pueblo 81-67 on Friday night.
