Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team came up on the short end of a 94-85 decision to Regis on Saturday in the Wilson Complex.
The Cowboys started the night off red-hot shooting a blistering 61.3% from the floor in the first half in which they led by as many as eleven points. A pair of late free throws by Regis would trim the NMHU lead to 51-43 at the half.
The Rangers scored the first eight points of the second half to draw even at 51-15 at the 17:41 mark. The Cowboys answered back and held the lead for the next seven minutes. Regis took the lead for good at the 9:29 mark of the second half.
Four Cowboys scored in double-figures on Saturday led by
Kenard Richardson who had 17 points.
Kyrie Thomas made five three point baskets and scored 16 points.
Ezichi Kalu and
Messiah Turner had 14 and 12 points apiece.
Kalu was the Cowboys leading rebounder with seven.
As a team,Ā the Cowboys shot 51% from the floor and were 10-16 from three point range. NMHU won the battle of the boards 31-22.
The Cowboys host Adams State on Friday at 7:00 pm.
