Las Vegas, New Mexico - Westminster spoiled the final home game of the season by handing the Cowboys a 75-71 setback Saturday night. NMHU falls to 10-15 overall and 7-13 in the RMAC while the Griffins improve to 8-17 overall and 4-15 in conference play.
The two teams played a back and forth first half with each team holding leads throughout the opening twenty minutes of play. Westminster took a 30-28 lead to the locker room at the halftime break, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
The Griffins led by as many as 16 points in the second but the Cowboys mounted a late push that saw them trim that lead to just two points when
Kenard Richardson converted a free throw with just seven seconds to play in the contest. Westminster made a pair of free throws to seal the game as time expired.
Kenard Richardson led the Cowboys in scoring 21 points,
Nathan Hasberry was also in double figures with 12.
Ezichi Kalu had a team high eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
NMHU will close out the 2023-24 campaign with games at Regis and UCCS next weekend.
