Colorado Springs, Colorado - UCCS edged the Cowboys 81-78 on Thursday evening. NMHU is now 8-9 overall and 1-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
The Cowboys trailed by as many as 12 points in the game but battled back to come within one point at 78-77 when
KJ LaMonte knocked down a jumper at the 1:38 mark of the second half. The Mountain Lions, however, went 3-3 from the free throw line in the waning minutes to close out the Cowboys.
Freshman
KJ LaMonte led the Cowboys with 17 points and a team high three assists.
Nathan Hasberry (13 points),
Blessin Kimble (13 points), and
Kenard Richardson (11 points) were also in double figures for NMHU.
NMHU shot 54.5% from the floor but just 57.9% from the free throw line in the contest.
Total rebounds in the game were even at 27 apiece.
UCCS visits historic Las Vegas on February 22nd for a 3:00 pm contest with the Cowboys.
The Cowboys play at CSU Pueblo on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The ThunderWolves beat Adams State 92-88 in overtime on Thursday night.
