Portales, New Mexico - The Cowboys fell to 0-5 on the young season with a 73-53 loss to Eastern New Mexico on the second day of the South Central Regional Challenge on Saturday evening.
NMHU led by as many as five points as the two teams went back-and-forth in the early going. The Greyhounds pulled away as the opening half wound down to take a 27-23 lead at the halftime break.
Eastern New Mexico outscored the Cowboys 16-3 in the first five minutes of the second half en route to the 20 point win.
Marcus Pierce led the Cowboys with 14 points on three of five shooting beyond the arc.
Dontae Walker added 13 points while
Robert Dix had 10.
Nikk Williams and
Dontae Walker each had five rebounds for NMHU.
For the game the Cowboys shot 40.4% from the floor and 50% from the free throw line.
The Cowboys now have ten days off before they head back out on the road for a game at Cameron University on November 25th.
