Billings, Montana - The Cowboys opened the 2025-26 regular season with a 91-67 defeat at the hands of MSU-Billings on Friday afternoon on the opening day of the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at The Trailhead.
NMHU shot the ball well early in Friday's game and held a four point lead at 18-14 when
Dontae Walker drained a three pointer with 12:54 to go in the first half. The host YellowjacketsĀ then found their rhythm offensively and took a 52-40 lead at the halftime break.
MSU-Billings limited the Cowboys to 28.6% shooting in the second 20 minutes and outscored NMHU 39-27 en route to the win.
Marcus Pierce scored 14 points to pace the Cowboys and
Dontae Walker added 10.
Robert Dix grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
NMHU shot 33.3% from the floor and 79.3% from the free throw line.
MSU-Billings won the battle of the boards as they out rebounded the Cowboys 44-38 and held a 20-5 edge in second chance points.
The Cowboys are back at it on Saturday morning as they renew acquaintances with Angelo State in an 11:00 am game. The Rams topped Nebraska-Kearney 73-62 in their game on Friday.
