Las Vegas, New Mexico - In a game that featured 16 lead changes, including three in the final 53 seconds, New Mexico Highlands held on for an 86-85 win as time expired Thursday night. The victory improved the Cowboys to 2-9 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play. Adams State dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Ramiah Adedigba converted a layup with 5.1 seconds remaining in the game to give the Cowboys an 86-85 lead. NMHU's defense then held firm on the final possession, preventing the Grizzlies from attempting a shot and sealing the win.
"Our home crowd gave us tremendous energy tonight. Our guys battled for 40 straight minutes and stuck together during so many ups and downs. We have been through so much already as a team after playing an extremely difficult schedule, and our guys keep showing up ready to compete every day," said Coach

The Cowboys turned in one of their best offensive performances of the season, posting season highs with 86 points and 61.8% shooting. Their balanced scoring attack also featured six players in double figures. NMHU dominated inside, outscoring Adams State 62–40 in the paint.
Marcus Pierce, sporting a bandage to his forehead for much of the second half due to a collision under the basket, led the Cowboys in scoring for the fifth time this season with 16 points. Â
Nikk Williams and
Ramiah Adedigba - who scored the Cowboys' final four points of the game - each finished with 13 points.
Caileb Parham added 12, while
Ibrahima Sacko and
Dontae Walker went for 10 points apiece.
The Cowboys held a 32–23 advantage on the boards, led by
Nikk Williams and
Dontae Walker with seven rebounds each.
Next up for the Cowboys is a trip to Gunnison on Tuesday night for a non-conference match up with Western Colorado. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
