Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes Orediggers Past Cowgirls

Golden, Colorado -The Cowgirls traveled to Golden to face Colorado School of Mines to cap off the opening weekend of conference play.

1st Half: NMHU 34-Colorado School of Mines (CSM) 24

Today started with Kapiolani Anitielu and Kamalani Anitielu picking up where they left off as they both knocked down back-to-back threes to open the game for the Cowgirls. Adrianna Torrez also knocked down a three for the Cowgirls as they held the lead at the end of the first quarter, 17-13

Into the second quarter, the Orediggers found their offense for every bucket the Cowgirls had, it seemed that CSM had an answer for it. The score heading into the break is 34-24, and the Cowgirls lead.

2nd Half: NMHU 47-62 Regis 45-68

CSM opened the second half hot, getting six points unanswered to open the half before Jaelyn Bates knocked down a couple of shots, a jumper, and a layup to end the scoring drought of the second half for the Cowgirls. However, the third quarter was dominated by Orediggers heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter CSM knocked down a layup, making it 47-47, and from there on out, it was back and forth. Each team exchanges big baskets. The Orediggers would eventually pull away, outscoring the Cowgirls 23-15 in the fourth. Jaelyn Bates led the Cowgirls in scoring with 14.
