Denver, Colorado - Regis defeated the Cowgirls by an 84-80 count on Saturday afternoon in the Regis Fieldhouse. The loss dropped the Cowgirls to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
The Rangers led wire to wire as they defeated NMHU for the second time this season. The hosts led 35-31 at the halftime break and by as many as 17 points in the third quarter. The Cowgirls came all the way back to tie it at 68-68 when Essynce Contreaz drained a three pointer at the 7:08 mark of the fourth quarter. But that was as close as NMHU would get as the Rangers scored the next five points en route to the four point win.
Contreraz led NMHU with a career high 19 points and seven rebounds. She made five three pointers and shot 50% from the floor playing a short distance from her alma mater, Holy Family School in nearby Broomfield.
Also in double figures on Saturday were Anitielu Kapiolani (18 points),
Juliana Aragon (16 points), and
Aniya Johnson (10 points).
Regis edged the Cowgirls 40-38 on the boards.
The Cowgirls play at Adams State this Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
