Soccer Ready To Open 2025 Season

Las Vegas, New Mexico -Ā New Mexico Highlands Soccer kicks off the 2025 season with a pair of home matches this week against Lone Star Conference (LSC) opponents. The action begins Thursday at 4:00 p.m., as the Cowgirls welcome West Texas A&M to historic Las Vegas. The week wraps up with a rivalry showdown on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., when in-state foe Eastern New Mexico comes to town.

COACH EVANS: Amanda Evans begins her second season at the helm of Cowgirls Soccer. She logged her first NMHU career victory on September 5th when she led NMHU to a 1-0 win over visiting Sul Ross State. Prior to coming to NMHU, Evans coached six seasons at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: West Texas A&M went 6-10-2 overall and 3-8-2 in the LSC a year ago. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series with NMHU 15-2-2 including a 1-0 win last season in Canyon. Bulut Ozturk was named the head soccer coach at WT for the 2025 season having spent time most recently on the staff at Iowa State. The Lady Buffs were selected 10th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Saturday marks a resumption of the series with Eastern New Mexico as the two teams did not play during the 2024 season. The Greyhounds have won the last three meetings in the series dating back to 2015. The Cowgirls' last win over ENMU came on September 13, 2014, when they won 4-0 in Las Vegas. Nona Borden was named head coach of the Greyhounds in February of this year. ENMU was tabbed for a 14th place finish in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

2025 RMAC COACHES POLL: New Mexico Highlands University garnered 19 points in voting conducted by the conference's 13 coaches to finish 13th, just behind Adams State in the poll.

THE 2025 COWGIRLS: The NMHU soccer staff had a busy off-season as they welcome 20 new players to this year's squad. The 2025 crop of newcomers features players from three states and seven different countries.

Leading the NMHU returnees are seniors Kate Rayner, Devyn Gunn, and Isavel Glenn. Rayner led the Cowgirls in scoring last season with 10 points including game winning goals over Sul Ross State and Minnesota-Moorhead. Gunn has logged nearly 3,900 career minutes on defense for NMHU. Glenn tallied a late goal against Western Colorado to help NMHU secure a draw.

FOLLOW THE COWGIRLS: If you're not able to make it to this week's games you can follow all the action on LiveStats and the RMAC Network. LiveStats are available free of charge and the broadcast of the game can be purchased here. Scott Galeti returns once again this season to call all the home action for NMHU on the RMAC Network.

UP NEXT: After Saturday's match with ENMU, the Cowgirls hit the road for three consecutive matches beginning with a 2:00 pm (MT) contest in Alpine, Texas, against Sul Ross State.

The next home match for NMHU is the 2025 RMAC opener on Friday, September 26th, against Black Hills State. Kick-off is at 4:00 pm.
