Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands routed Western Colorado 113-60 on Saturday afternoon in the Wilson Complex. With the win, the Cowboys improved to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while the Mountaineers fell to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
The 113 points are the most scored by the Cowboys since Nov. 23, 2021, when New Mexico Highlands recorded a 115-point performance against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
For the second consecutive game, six Cowboys scored in double figures, led by
Marcus Pierce's career-high 24 points.
Caileb Parham also posted a career high with 17 points.
Nikk Williams and
Dontae Walker added 14 and 12 points, respectively, while
BJ Comer and
Trey Tate each finished with 10 points.
The Cowboys shot a season-best 63.5 percent (47-of-74) from the floor and connected on 53.8 percent of their attempts from three-point range. Pierce (4-for-4) and Parham (3-for-3) were perfect from beyond the arc.
New Mexico Highlands out-rebounded the Mountaineers 36-22, paced by
Dontae Walker and
BJ Comer, who each grabbed seven rebounds.
Defensively, Western Colorado's 60 points marked its lowest scoring output of the season. The Cowboys held the Mountaineers to just 38.3 percent shooting from the field and recorded a season-high 16 steals.
The Cowboys hit the road for a pair of games this week, beginning Thursday night in Spearfish, South Dakota, against nationally ranked Black Hills State.
