Las Vegas, NM-The Cowgirls start the weekend off with win.
1st Half: UCCS 34- NMHU 37
After multiple turnovers by each squad, the offense began to find its way, exchanging buckets, and headed into the first media timeout. The second part of the first quarter was also low-scoring, with UCCS leading by one at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second, each team was getting good looks early, but nothing seemed to fall as if there was a lid on the hoop. The Cowgirls caught fire from beyond the arc on a pair of Kamalani Anitielu three-pointers. Following a flagrant foul called on UCCS, Aspen Salazar and Aniya Johnson get a couple of buckets, and the Cowgirls lead by three at the half.
2nd Half: UCCS 49-60 - NMHU 59-69
The second half of today's game was a bit more physical, but the Cowgirls had the home crowd behind them as they began to feed off their energy. The Cowgirls then went to their bread and butter, beginning post-work with Aniya Johnson.Â
In the fourth quarter, both offenses were cold once again. The Cowgirls, however, had a lead headed into the final five minutes. Following a timeout, Kamalani Anitielu threw passed down the floor to Kimora McClure for the basket, and after that, the Cowgirls would walk away with the victory.
Up Next: The Cowgirls are back at home Saturday as CSU Pueblo comes to town for the tip-off at Noon.
