Cowgirls Come Close, Fall To MSU-Denver

Las Vegas, NM-The Cowgirls faced MSU-Denver.

1st Half: MSU-Denver 32- NMHU 36

Hailey Long got the scoring going for the Cowgirls. Aspen Salazar knocked down a pair of threes, and the Cowgirls began to move the ball around, find lanes, and create points. The points in the paint were hard to come by for the Cowgirls, as Metro State had the height advantage this evening. They had a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Roadrunners were locked down by the Cowgirls' defense, which they turned into points on the break, but Metro State Denver would not go away quietly, as they led by four at halftime.

2nd Half: CSU-P 46-62- NMHU 47-58

In the second half, the Roadrunners came out firing on all cylinders, erasing the lead the Cowgirls had and taking control of the lead. Turnover began to hurt the Cowgirls, and Metro State was capitalizing on it. The Cowgirls settled down, found their groove, and took the lead at the end of the third. Setting the stage for a high-flying fourth quarter.

The Fourth quarter was bucket after bucket; however, the Cowgirls could not knock down the three-ball but did damage by driving to the basket and making short-range jumpers. Long knocked down a three, tied it up with 1:17. However, they would trail by two with 11 seconds. The Cowgirls were going to get one shot to tie or take the lead. An Aspen Salazar last-second heave would fall short, and the Cowgirls would fall.

Up Next: The Cowgirls are back at home Saturday at 1:00 PM against the Rangers of Regis
