Las Vegas, New Mexico - Ten different Cowgirls scored on Saturday afternoon as New Mexico Highlands pulled away from Regis University for a 77-68 victory in the Wilson Complex. The win improved the Cowgirls to 10-9 overall and 6-6 in RMAC play, while the Rangers fell to 0-16 overall and 0-12 in conference action.
After a back-and-forth opening six minutes, the Cowgirls took the lead for good when
Melika Samia converted a layup to put Highlands ahead 15-13. New Mexico Highlands built its advantage to as many as 13 points in the second quarter and followed with 36 points in the second half to secure the double-digit win.
The Cowgirls shot 48.3 percent from the floor on the afternoon and knocked down seven three-point field goals.
Defensively, New Mexico Highlands forced 22 Regis turnovers, converting them into 32 points.
Four Cowgirls scored in double figures, led by
Aspen Salazar's 17 points.
Aniya Johnson added 16,
Kamalani Anitielu finished with 13, and
Melika Samia chipped in 12.
Salazar also led the Cowgirls on the glass with a team-high seven rebounds.
With the victory, New Mexico Highlands completed the season sweep of the Rangers.
The Cowgirls return to the road on Tuesday evening, traveling to Alamosa for a 5:30 p.m. RMAC match up with Adams State.
