Grizzlies Get the Better of the Cowgirls

Las Vegas, NM-The Cowgirls started the week off against Adams State with a quick roadtrip.

1st Half: Adams State (ASU) 35- NMHU 28

The first half was a competitive matchup as the Cowgirls were feeding the ball in the paint. However, with a couple of key pieces missing, someone had to step up. Aniya Johnson did just that. As she would have a career day. The Cowgirls would use points in the paint to keep up with the Grizzlies.

However, in the second quarter, Adams State began to pull away, opening the quarter five of six on shots and doing a better job of rebounding. The Cowgirls did out-rebound the Grizzlies overall, just not in the first half, as Adams State took the lead into the half.

2nd Half: ASU 71- NMHU 65

The Cowgirls continued to dominate in the paint, as 40 of their points would come in the paint, and 22 of Aniya Johnson's points this evening would come via shots in the paint. However, the Grizzlies did just enough, outshooting the Cowgirls from beyond the arc and in total FG percentage this evening.

CAREER HIGH:  Aniya Johnson's 29 points this evening were a career high, passing her old career high of 21 set last season against Colorado School of Mines.

Up Next: The Cowgirls are back at home Saturday at 1:00 PM against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks.
