Las Vegas, New Mexico- The Cowboys opened the 2026 campaign with a doubleheader at home against the Southern Nazarene Storm.

Game 1: Southern Nazerene 10- NMHU 7
The First game of the day was a nine-inning battle as Andrew Baltazar got the start on the mound for the Cowboys. Baltazar threw up a zero in the first inning, and the Cowboys' offense backed him up by putting up three runs in the first inning. However, the Storm answered with three of their own in the second. The Cowboys would put up one run in the second. Coach Steve Jones' team added three more runs of their own in the 3rd, and with a 10-3 lead, the Cowboys gave up five runs in the fourth and did not score the rest of the game, falling in game one of today's doubleheader.

Game 2: Southern Nazarene 10- NMHU 11
Game two of the day started off with a bang as Johnathan Davis hit a solo home run that hit the scoreboard. The Cowboys also tacked on more runs in the 2nd,4th, and 5th innings and had a 10-3 lead headed into the 6th. However, in the RMAC and at Brandt Field in Las Vegas, no lead is safe. The Storm came in the 6th and added two more runs to make it 10-5, and then a 5-run top half of the 7th tied the game at 10 as they headed into the bottom half. The Cowboys had an opportunity to score one run and win it, or head to extras. The man who started the game off with a bang would also end the game as Johnathan Davis, with a man on second and third and two outs, he would hit a ball in the air to right, and it would land over the head of the right fielder of the Storm, who would get the win on a walkoff winner.

COACH JONES: This marks the first win for Coach Jones since his return as the head coach of the Cowboys baseball program.
