Las Vegas, New Mexico - Colorado Mesa pulled away down the stretch to defeat New Mexico Highlands 94-84 Thursday night inside the Wilson Complex. The loss drops the Cowboys to 4-12 overall and 2-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while the Mavericks improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in league action.
Colorado Mesa shot 60.0 percent from the field and built a lead as large as 13 points in the opening half. New Mexico Highlands closed the period strong, scoring nine of the final 13 points to cut the deficit to 41-33 at the break.
The Cowboys came out firing in the second half, erasing the Maverick lead and tying the game at 45-45 just 2:14 in. New Mexico Highlands later took a 75-72 lead following a
Ramiah Adedigba layup with 5:30 remaining, but Colorado Mesa answered with a decisive 22-9 run to seal the win.
Six Cowboys scored in double figures, led by Adedigba's 21 points.
Trey Tate finished with career high 12 points, while
Nikk Williams and
Marcus Pierce added 11 apiece.
Caileb Parham and
Dontae Walker chipped in 10 points each to round out the balanced attack.
Williams also paced the Cowboys on the glass with a team-high six rebounds.
New Mexico Highlands will get another shot at the Mavericks on February 14th in Grand Junction.Ā
Next up, the Cowboys return to action on Saturday at 3:00 pm against Western Colorado, which fell 89ā63 at Fort Lewis on Thursday night in Durango.
