Cowgirls Begin Busy Home Week Against Eastern New Mexico

Three-Match Home Week Ahead for NMHU Volleyball

Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands returns home for three matches this week at the Wilson Center, beginning Tuesday night when Eastern New Mexico visits for a 6:00 pm non-conference match. The Cowgirls close out the week with RMAC matches against South Dakota Mines at 6:00 pm Friday and Black Hills State at 1:00 pm Saturday.

On Saturday, the Cowgirls welcome NMHU Volleyball alumni back to Las Vegas for the annual Alumni Day celebration. Additionally, New Mexico Highlands is partnering with the RMAC and RADical Hope as part of the conference's RMAC Mental Health Week.

LAST WEEK: The Cowgirls split a pair of RMAC matches on the road last week, falling at Regis 3-2 on Friday before bouncing back with a 3-2 win at Chadron State on Saturday night.

Aziza Morris recorded 31 kills in the two matches to lead New Mexico Highlands, while Savannah Boatwright hit .442 for the weekend. Marisa Sandoval-Moya posted a double-double in each match. Defensively, Becca Wiersema recorded a career-high 34 digs in the Cowgirls' win over Chadron State on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE VISITORS: Eastern New Mexico returns to historic Las Vegas for the second time this season with a 5-11 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Lone Star Conference. The Greyhounds defeated the Cowgirls 3-0 on Sept. 5 in the final match of the Meadow City Classic. Over the last 10 meetings between the longtime rivals, the series is even at 5-5.

South Dakota Mines enters Friday's match against the Cowgirls at 11-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Hardrockers are part of a three-way tie for seventh place in the RMAC standings with Fort Lewis and CSU Pueblo. Friday's match is the first of two meetings between South Dakota Mines and New Mexico Highlands this season, with the Cowgirls traveling to Rapid City for the RMAC Power Pod later this month.

Black Hills State enters the week at 6-10 overall and 2-4 in RMAC play. The Yellow Jackets visit Adams State on Friday night before making their way to Las Vegas for Saturday afternoon's match. It will be the only meeting of the 2026 regular season between the two teams.

MILESTONE: Senior Aziza Morris recorded her 700th career kill in the Cowgirls' match at Regis on Oct. 2. Morris enters this week with 729 career kills.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Cowgirls recorded 13 service aces at Chadron State on Oct. 3, tied for the second-most aces in a match in the RMAC this season.

Aziza Morris ranks 11th in the RMAC with 2.91 kills per set and 15th with 3.17 points per set.

Naya Dornic ranks 12th in the conference with 3.74 digs per set and 15th with 0.34 service aces per set.

Marissa Sandoval-Moya ranks fifth in the RMAC with 0.40 service aces per set.

Lea Süsoy ranks 10th in the conference with 0.38 service aces per set.
