Las Vegas, New Mexico-The Cowgirls handle Yellow Jackets in final home game of season.
1st Half: Black Hills State (BHSU) 31 - NMHU 35Â
BHSU started the scoring, and the game plan was apparent: work the ball inside to the paint. The Cowgirls' game plan was similar, as they started the game with six points in the paint. The three-point ball was scarce in the first quarter as the two teams were a combined 0-5 from beyond the arc, and the Cowgirls clung to a two-point lead headed into the second quarter.
The Cowgirls' offense got it going and began to run the floor, forcing an early BHSU timeout. Melika Samia had the hot hand with a career high 14 in the first quarter. Then, following a four-point play by Brynn Hargrove, Aspen Salazar gets a steal and throws up a heave, and it drops the momentum for the Cowgirls heading into the break.
2nd Half: BHSUÂ 70 - NMHU 81
The Yellow Jackets came out in the second half with fast break points. Later in the third, the Cowgirls found life, and the Wilson Center crowd came to life. As the third quarter wound down, Black Hills State hit three long-range threes, and momentum was with the Yellow Jackets.
However, the fourth would be all Cowgirls as the defense went into lockdown mode, and they would win the final home game of the season.
Coach Fearing Following the Win: "The energy was electric and contagious today!!! Our home crowd is second to none! Thank you to all who have shown up and supported us. Happy to finish out 2-0 for the last home games of the season!"
