Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands knocked off one of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's top teams Saturday afternoon, outlasting Fort Lewis 93-88 in overtime at the John A. Wilson Complex.
Fort Lewis entered the game with a 14-7 overall record and an 11-2 mark in RMAC play, and had been receiving votes in the most recent NABC NCAA Division II Top 25 poll. The Cowboys improved to 10-15 overall and 8-6 in conference play with the victory.
The teams battled through a tightly contested game that featured 11 ties and 16 lead changes. Fort Lewis led 42-39 at halftime, but the Cowboys answered in the second half to force overtime at 80-80. New Mexico Highlands outscored the Skyhawks 13-8 in the extra period to secure the five-point win.
Ramiah Adedigba scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Cowboys, shooting 11-of-18 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers.
Dontae Walker recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while
BJ Comer added 15 points and four assists.
Ibrahima Sacko provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and eight rebounds, helping New Mexico Highlands win the rebounding battle 46-41.
The Cowboys shot 45.7 percent from the field and knocked down 24 of 27 free throws (88.9 percent), their best performance of the season at the line. They also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in overtime to help seal the victory.
New Mexico Highlands is back on the road next week playing at Westminster on Thursday night and Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon.
