Revenge was sweet for the Cowgirls as the Adams State Grizzlies left Perkins Stadium with a loss. The Cowgirls beat the Grizzlies 2-0 in what proved to be a very physical game on 10/23 as the Cowgirls kicked off the Kickin' & Diggin' for the Cure weekend the NMHU campus on a positive note. The Cowgirls sold over 300 raffle tickets for the Kickin' & Diggin' for the Cure iPod raffle with all proceeds going to breast cancer awareness in New Mexico.
In the net for the Cowgirls was
Shannon Delarosbil for the 90 minutes of play. Delarosbil had 4 saves with no goals allowed. This eventually culminated in Delarosbil's first victory for the season.
The Cowgirls scored both their goals in the first half of play. The first goal came from
Yolanda Elias on a penalty kick after a rough play. The goal was Elias's first for the season. The next goal came from
Krista Mashak and was unassisted. That would be Mashak's second goal for the season.
The Cowgirls stepped up their game as the Grizzlies added an unnecessary physical element to the game. Both teams had 13 fouls on the day with the Grizzlies earning four yellow cards and the Cowgirls only two.
The Cowgirls also outshot the Grizzlies as the Cowgirls had 12 shots, with 7 on goal and the Grizzlies had only 10 shots with 4 of them on goal.
The last time NMHU and ASC met up was on the ASC campus and the Cowgirls lost 3-0. The Cowgirls showed the Grizzlies what it's like to play in the crisp Las Vegas air as they beat the Grizzlies at Perkins Stadium by a final of 2-0.
The Cowgirls are now 3-11 in RMAC play and will look for another win 10/25 as they host the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers at Perkins Stadium at 12:00 pm.
