The NMHU Cowgirls played host to the Regis University Rangers at the John A. Wilson Complex on 1/16. The Cowgirls came out victorious and beat the Rangers 67-65. The Cowgirls' fate was sealed as
Jessica Armijo hit a jumper with 32 seconds remaining followed by
Whitney Polosky making a shot from the charity line.
In the first half the Cowgirls were up by as much as 12 points but the Rangers slowly crept up on them. Four Cowgirls were in double digits for scoring. Leading the Cowgirls in scoring, rebounds, and assists was Polosky. She netted a career high 20 points and added in seven rebounds and six assists. Polosky was 3-4 from the charity line on the night.
Katlyn Mary was close behind with 18 points for the Cowgirls. Armijo and
Ashley Logan rounded out the double digit scoring for the Cowgirls with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
In rebounding, following Polosky, Logan grabbed five rebounds for the Cowgirls to assist in their winning effort.
Head Coach Tiffany Darling said, “I'm very proud of the way we played tonight; the last shot by Jessica was a key point of the game for us. Regis has always been a perennial powerhouse in the conference. We were lead by two of our freshmen tonight and it shows the team is taking the right steps towards turning our program around. The girls have been able to push forward after some recent changes on the roster. The futue of Cowgirl basketball looks bright with freshmen taking charge at such an early place in their careers.”
Next up for the Cowgirls are the Mesa State Mavericks on 1/22 at the John A. Wilson Complex.
