Since its inception in 1996, the NMHU Cowgirl soccer program has never hosted an RMAC Championship Tournament game… until now. The NMHU Cowgirls have solidified the #3 seed in the RMAC tournament after their decisive victory over the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo on 10/29. The Cowgirls will now enter the post season for just the second time in the history of the program as they host the Mountain Lions from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs under the lights in Perkins Stadium on 11/3 at 6:00 pm in Las Vegas, N.M.
2010 has been a record breaking season for the Cowgirls as they have shattered almost every record in program history. The 2010 Cowgirls have set new highs in the following records: Most Goals in a Season (33), Most Wins in a Season (11), and Highest Regular Season RMAC Finish (3rd).
Cowgirl junior,
Julissa Rodriguez, has also set a new individual record for most goals in a season with 13 goals on the year.
The #3 seeded Cowgirls will play host to UCCS at 6:00 pm in Perkins Stadium on 11/3. The winner of the first round game will travel to Durango, Colo. to take on the #2 seeded Rangers of Regis University. The Rangers, along with the #1 seeded Fort Lewis Skyhawks, received a first round bye in the six team tournament.
The RMAC Tournament is the first step for the Cowgirls as they head towards a possible NCAA Tournament bid. The Cowgirls are currently ranked sixth in the region and hoping to move up in the rankings with the win over CSU-Pueblo.
Be sure to come on out on 11/3 @ 6:00 pm and show your PURPLE PRIDE!!!
