The New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys will continue on in the NCAA Division II Central Baseball Regional Tournament as they defeated the Mesa State Mavericks. After the Cowboys' victory, the #3 seeded Mavericks were eliminated from the tournament.
Earning the win on the mound for the Cowboys was
Danny Brown. He walked and struck out three Mavericks in 5.1 innings pitched. He is now 6-2 on the season.
Tyler Shaddy earned the save, his third of the season, as he had two strikeouts in one inning. Shaddy struck out the last batter to end the game.
Outstanding players for the Cowboys include:
Oscar Sigala,
Jason Carr, and Brown. Sigala went 2-4 after he hit a grand slam in the first inning. Carr went 1-5 and scored one run and brought in 3 RBIs after he hit a homerun. Not only did Brown excel on the mound but he also batted 3-4 with two runs scored against the Mavericks.
The Cowboys will now face off again with the St. Cloud Huskies on 5/15 at 7 pm. The Huskies and Cowboys met up in the first round with the Huskies coming out on top. The winner of the night cap will move on to the championship game against the undefeated Minnesota State Mavericks on 5/16.
